Birdwood’s Baranduda battery project granted Planning Permit.
Birdwood Energy (Birdwood) is pleased to advise that the Baranduda Electrical Energy Reserve Project (the Baranduda Battery) has been granted a planning permit from the Victorian Government’s Department of Transport and Planning for the development of a 400 MW/1.8 GWh capacity Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in an industrial precinct directly adjacent to the Wodonga Terminal Station in Baranduda, Victoria.
Construction of the Baranduda Battery is expected to commence in late 2025 and take approximately 18 months to complete.
Once operational, the Baranduda Battery is expected to have sufficient capacity to service power demand for between 100,000 and 400,000 households dependent on level of demand. The Baranduda Battery project will help accelerate the storage and delivery of low-cost daytime solar power to consumers and businesses in the evening, which over time is expected to put downward pressure on wholesale electricity prices in Victoria during peak periods of demand.
