Our Vision
Our vision is to to get the energy infrastructure, in the countries we work in, to Net Zero as fast as possible..
Why Birdwood Energy?
Across the globe, energy markets are supporting a once-in-a-century “double transformation” where both sides of the market shift: economies are continuing to electrify while grids switch to firmed renewables. The future course of energy investment and operation is at a turning point.
Within Australia for example, households and businesses have added nearly 8GW of new rooftop solar capacity in the past four years, in the process making Australia a world leader in the deployment of distributed energy resources (DER). This is an example of consumer choices driving structural change, while at the same time, investors look to capitalise on the grid transition.
Investors are accessing investment opportunities in large renewable projects directly for centralised generation. However, these projects only provide for a small part of an overall integrated energy system. Distributed and firm energy close to demand should provide the majority of energy supply in an efficient energy system.
Distributed energy is difficult for investors to access, with lots of small developers and companies. This sector however requires significant investment at scale in order to achieve our net zero targets. Distributed energy should be able to fulfil ~60% of our future energy supply. It will be the lowest cost, most secure and cleanest energy system.
At birdwood, we have distilled 15 years of global renewable and storage expertise, and coupled that with investment funds to rapidly unlock distributed and firm energy value. We roll-up (acquire and assist developers) projects of sub 100MW renewable assets, as well as strategic large grid projects, use our development skills and intellectual property to augment them with batteries, invest and manage them as a broader portfolio and importantly, operate and optimise their operations.
